Commissioner Grunshaw praises community group supported by proceeds of crime

Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Clive Grunshaw, joined Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Kimberley Whitehead and community leaders at Clayton Amateur Boxing and Community Club to see how funding from the office has made a positive impact on the community.

During the event, the boxing club showcased the achievements made possible through their Box Champion Programme, thanks to funding from the Commissioner’s Office.

The programme works with local young people to help build confidence and resilience, while also encouraging better school attendance and improved anger management. The overarching objective is to guide young people toward making constructive life decisions and to discourage engagement in criminal or anti-social behaviour.

Following the visit, Commissioner Grunshaw said:

“I’m delighted to have seen the positive impact that this project has had on the local area. The work done by the club to engage young people and prevent anti-social behaviour is exemplary.

“This project is a great example of how we can use cash seized from criminals to prevent crime. I look forward to working alongside Clayton Amateur Boxing Club and similar initiatives in the future to ultimately make Lancashire a safer place.

“Policing can’t solve crimes and anti-social behaviour in isolation and having local community groups on board can make a world of difference. My Community Fund is great tool to promote partnership working between local communities and the police, all with the aim of preventing crime.”

Murray Dawson, Chair of #AmazingAccrington, Managing Director of Scott Dawson Advertising and Owner of Peter Scott Printers, said: “It was a fantastic event at Clayton Amateur Boxing Club, highlighted by the premiere of a powerful documentary, which we are proud to have filmed and edited on behalf of the club, that truly showcased the incredible work being done there.

“From supporting veterans in the community and school engagement, to promoting inclusivity and providing a safe space for the community, the dedication that John and his team put into supporting the Hyndburn community is both inspiring and vitally important.

“As a Clayton lad myself, it is especially meaningful to see the positive changes that have taken place. The transformation over the last ten years has been amazing, John is on a journey of growth, and we are proud to support him.”
