Clayton Boxing Club had an unforgettable weekend at the prestigious Portimão Box Cup, held on the stunning Algarve coast in Portugal. The team delivered a series of impressive performances, competing against talented boxers from across Europe, as part of a field of 500 athletes.
Competing in brilliant form, the club proudly brought home a fantastic medal haul of seven:
· Gold medals for Kai and Mia
· Silver for Jake, Nevaeh, George, and Annalise
· Bronze medal for Lucas
Every boxer gave their all, representing the club with passion, determination, and sportsmanship. Their performances captivated the crowd and demonstrated the strength of grassroots boxing talent coming out of Clayton.
The event itself was no ordinary tournament – expertly organised and hosted in a world-class venue, it provided the perfect stage for international competition and a real test for the young boxers.
A huge thank you goes to Dean, who managed all the logistics including flights, accommodation, and athlete registrations. Special thanks also to Kai and Lucas, who not only stepped into the ring but also took on coaching responsibilities during the tournament.
Head Coach John Brindle said about the trip, “We’re deeply grateful to the parents who supported the team throughout – both in spirit and in person – and helped make the experience even more memorable.
“Also, a heartfelt thank you to our generous sponsors, whose support helped make this incredible opportunity possible for our young athletes.
“Clayton Boxing Club is proud of every member of the team. This weekend wasn’t just about medals – it was about growth, experience, and representing our community on the international stage.”
